The Co-Founders Notebook - Day One

The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide you’re not going to stay where you are. Which is how Welf was born. Jack and I wanted to create something different. To be proud of. A business that people are excited to shout about when socialising with friends and family.

I know this sounds more like a Gen Z start up in Silicon Valley than a firm of accountants in Warwick, but individually, we found ourselves creating the exact opposite. Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.

It’s not that we failed entirely, we both created great businesses. It’s just they steered off course a little. We were drifting.

We quickly discovered our strengths were each other’s weaknesses. We had a common goal in mind. Plans were drafted. Do or do not, there is no try. So we did.

We decided to come together to create an accountancy firm that helped our clients not lose sight of their end goals. Create plans and execute them. Learn from our experiences and create a community of goal focused individuals.

I’m writing this on day one of our journey 2.0. Using our previous businesses as stepping stones and learning from each other’s successes and failures.

Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change will stand still.

Until next time,

Paul – One half of Welf
